BIOGRAPHY

Kim Jaejoong was born Han Jaejun in SGongju, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea on January 26, 1986. At an early age he was given up for adoption by his birth mother to the Kims, and his name was then changed.

At the age of 15, Jaejoong moved to Seoul in order to pursue his dream to be an entertainer and took on various difficult jobs to support himself.  He was accepted by SM Entertainment after his audition in 2001.

MUSIC

Jaejoong was the lead vocalist of TVXQ from 2003 to 2009. He had also been active in his contributions as composer and lyricist for the group. His wotks as songwriter during his TVXQ days are as follows:

ACTING

Before his debut, Jaejoong appeared as an extra in film Taegeukgi (태극기 휘날리며). He also acted in two TV dramas Banjun Theater and Vacation in 2006 with his then TVXQ bandmates. He also acted in Taegoon’s “Call Me” music video in 2008.

In November 2009, Jaejoong starred in a joint Korean-Japanese telecinema Heaven’s Postman, with actress Han Yoo Joo. This was followed by his acting in the Japanese drama, Sunao Ni Narenakute (Hard To Say I Love You / 素直になれなくて) in September 2010 for which he won  as Best Supporting Actor for Spring Season at the 14th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix and Spring Drama Most Interesting Actor at the Oricon’s “Spring Drama ☆ AWARD 2010.” He was also in Ayumi Hamasaki’s music video for her 2010 song “Blossom”.

Jaejoong appeared in his first Korean drama in the SBS drama Protect the Boss with Choi Kang Hee, Ji Sung and Wang Ji Hye in 2011 where he won the New Star Award at the 2011 SBS Drama Awards. In 2012, he starred as Kyung Tak in the MBC Drama, Dr. Jin, with Song Seung-hun, Park Min-young, Lee Beom-soo and Lee So-yeon. He is also working on his upcoming film, Jackal is Coming with agency-mate Song Ji-Hyo.

DIRECTING

Jaejoong worked as the Executive Director for the Asian leg of JYJ’s 2011 Worldwide Tour. He also participated in the directing team for the 2011 LG Whisen Rhythmic All Stars.

OTHERS

Jaejoong was awarded as the The Year’s Best Celebrity on Twitter 2011-Shorty Awards Celebrity – the 1st place and Celebrity Shorty Awards Winner and the 2012 Shorty Awards Vox Populi (People’s Choice) Winner. He also won Hottest Male Idol of 2010 and 2011 at the 2nd and 3rd Philippine Kpop Convention.
